Back to Blogging

Happy September 1st to all!
It's "Back to School" for many ... "Back to Blogging" for me =)

I hope you all enjoyed the beautiful summer we had. As you can see, I took a little break from blogging - trying to figure out how to keep writing in a way that my blog will continue to mirror my personal life (even though I’m no longer a college student), while also serving its original purpose; that is to help college students live a healthy yet manageable lifestyle. I’ve been tackling this thought for the past two months and then realized I don’t have to alter anything at all! College students and recent college grads are more similar than they are different. We are all in the same age bracket & have the same limited budgets. We’re all at that time in our lives when we have the world at our fingertips: a thought that sounds intriguing at first. However, this summer has shown my friends and I that having the world at our fingertips can actually be quite scary & difficult at times.

It has been an unusual summer – a summer of transition, changes and adjustments. While I’m grateful for so much and lead a very happy life, sometimes I can’t help but worry about those things that are out of my control; the unknown. Uncertainty & anxiety could drive someone crazy. After all, what’s worse than not having control of your own thoughts & your own feelings ... Here’s an example: last week I had a terrible nightmare. In fact, my own crying is what woke me up. Not only was I not able to fall back asleep, but worse … the terrible ‘knot-in-my-stomach’ feeling stayed with me all day. Here's another example: Monday night one of my best friends called me and cried to me over the phone in desperation. She kept saying, ‘I just can’t do this...I can't live like this’ – she feels lost and empty. I didn't know what to do to make her feel better... so I simply listened to her cry, drove to where she was & gave her a big hug, which proved to be the BEST medicine, as it always does.

Today is September 1st, which means today is my mom’s first day back to teaching, my sister Christina's first day of 4th grade, my sister Stephanie's first day of 12th, and for me, my first day in my new apartment … a perfect day to be inspired & start blogging again. Since my inspiration came from my family this morning as everyone got ready to go back to school, today I have chosen to include an excerpt in my blog from the book, All I Really Need To Know I Learned in Kindergarten instead of a recipe.

Take a few moments to read this excerpt: http://www.kalimunro.com/learned_in_kindergarten.html
I hope it inspires you as it has inspired me. Inspiration is important - it feeds our mind, heart & soul. After all, health pertains to so much more than just taking care of your body – it means taking care of your mind, your heart and your soul too!

On the first day of anything new, whether it's the start of a new job, a new lease, a new school year, the first day of a new month, a new emotion (either good or bad) you feel for the first time, or whether you’re still in the process of learning how to live a new lifestyle as a recent college graduate, remember that you have everything you need to make it through & that you’re not alone. As we learned in kindergarten: share you stories and your feelings with the people who love you, listen to friends when they need to feel heard, be positive - you have so much to be grateful for! Most importantly remember, as Robert Fulghum
puts it so perfectly, that “it is still true, no matter how old you are, when you go out into the world, it is best to hold hands and stick together.” =)
